Characteristics
Polypropylene is one of those rather versatile polymers out there. It serves double duty, both as a plastic and as a fiber. As a plastic it is used to make things like dishwasher-safe food containers. It can do this because it doesn't melt below 160 oC, or 320 oF. Polyethylene, a more common plastic, will anneal at around 100 oC, which means that polyethylene dishes will warp in the dishwasher. 
 
Applications
As a fiber, polypropylene is used to make indoor-outdoor carpeting, the kind that you always find around swimming pools and miniature golf courses. It works well for outdoor carpet because it is easy to make colored polypropylene, and because polypropylene doesn't absorb water, like nylon does.

CAB : Cellulose Acetate Butyrate

Characteristics
Cellulose plastics are noted for their excellent balance of properties - toughness, hardness, strength, surface gloss, clarity, and a warm feel. The mechanical properties of Cellulose plastics differ with plasticizer levels. Lower plasticizer content yields a harder surface, higher heat resistance, greater rigidity, higher tensile strength, and better dimensional stability. Higher plasticizer content increases impact strength. Cellulose plastics are available in natural, clear, selected ambers or smoke transparent and black translucent. Color concentrates are available in let-down ratios from 10:1 to 40:1. Cellulose Acetate Butyrate contains an odor mask and can be processed at high melt temperatures. It has a plasticizer level of 16%.

UHMW–PE: Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Characteristics
It is the highest quality PE available, engineered for tough jobs and a wide range of applications. It delivers savings in a number of difficult applications. Ultra High Molecular Weight is the secret of this polymer's unique properties. Its high-density polyethylene resin has a molecular weight range of 3 to 6 million, compared to 300,000 to 500,000 for HMW resins. That difference is what ensures that this material is strong enough to withstand abrasion and impact better than lower level poly products. UHMW-PE's high molecular weight means it will not melt or flow as a molten liquid. Processing methods are therefore derived from those of powder metal technology. UHMW-PE cannot be transformed and molded by conventional plastic processing techniques (injection molding, blow molding or thermoforming). Compression molding is the most common conversion process used with this resin, producing a stronger, more consistent product.
 
Applications
UHMW - PE is made exclusively from the highest grade of poly available. This is what gives parts manufactured from this polymer long-lasting, superior quality, in both replacement parts and components on original equipment. It helps manufacturers to reduce downtime, improve performance, eliminate the need for lubrication, replace steel parts and lower their operating costs. The high wear resistance of UHMW –PE makes it valuable in plants handling mass produced goods such as coal, ore, grain and paper. It's also effective in the chemical industry for the manufacture of pump parts, seals, filters, slide bars, gear wheels and other parts. It's especially effective in surgical implants, prosthetics and supports, ski coatings, snow plough blades, bowling alleys and butchers' blocks.
